Just got back from the Chris Potter Quartet show at the Regattabar in Cambridge MA. Absolutely stunning. Larry Grenadier on bass, Nate Smith drums, David Verellus Piano. Very intense and full of energy. Larry grenadier is one of the most amazing bass players. Chris Potter - Unbelievable. If you get a chance to see them, don’t miss it! |

Great review, brightsize. It might not be straight-ahead, but it’s great music and your review does it justice.

Nice review, bright size, but I’d hardly
call this record straight-ahead. Yeah,
it’s acoustic and, at least in some
places, it swings, but that’s about as
close to mainstream, straight-ahead
jazz as it gets. The harmonies are
certainly not, nor is the overall
compositional construction , or the
use of two pianists, one largely
working with prepared piano, celeste
and harmonium.

Potter is such a lyrical, yet damn powerful player. His solo live on Interval Waltz, and on the record was/is extraordinary.
