A review of Jan Garbarek, Egberto Gismonti, Charlie Haden’s Magico: Carta de Amor, today at All About Jazz. An archival find, a live show from 1981, includes music from their ECM releases of the time, but more importantly, this two-cd set also includes a lot of material that has not been previously heard performed by this trio. Sublime, interpretive and exhilarating, but often in the most quiet, tranquil way possible, this makes 2012, with Terje Rypdal’sUnfinished Highballs (part of the Odyssey box) and Jarrett’s Sleeper, a very special year for ECM fans.
