I had the pleasure to attend the Yellowjackets in concert here in Holland, featuring Felix Pastorius replacing Jimmy Haslip. What a great concert, what fabulous musicians. Of course a big part of the audience’s attention went to Felix. This was his sixth (!) gig with the band and he did a splendid job. He needed the support of sheet music to play Jimmy’s parts (which are, as we all know, a very important aspect of the band’s music) and sometimes he had a bit of a struggle to play them verbatim, however when let loose he played amazingly well, with a bit of his father’s colouring. In his solo in ’Jacketown’ he quoted some bars of ’Teen Town’. The audience went berserk. Great gig. If the Jackets are anywhere around where you live, be sure to grab them. There’s a bit of a fusion revival going on (much to my content) and they’re still the best fusion band out there.

Bookmark and Share Much as I like Christian, I think he would be totally displaced in the Yellowjackets. I disagree wholly on the musicianship of Haslip and F.Pastorius. Really, imho you don´t know what you´re talking about. None whatsoever.

Bookmark and Share Two bass players who are not really great musicians. They should have gotten Derrick Hodge. Or Christian McBride on electric.

Bookmark and Share Mario Toni, your answer about the Jackets is in Hambone’s post (thanks, H.). About fusion: in what I read on the internet the interest in fusion is increasing. Indeed, some sort of revival, however maybe short lived (which I hope not). E.g. Return To Forever touring again, with lots of succes, so I understood. Haven’t heard of any new bands. Like you I’m interested to hear about them.

Bookmark and Share mario, it was announced about a month ago that Jimmy Haslip was taking a year hiatus from the Jackets and would back in the near future. Felix should make a great fill-in until then.Sounds like they are still going strong.
