Bookmark and Share I’m totaly agree with you, Montain. And It’s just Pop, R&B, Rap and Rock. It is unusual that jazz were represented. (I’m sure this sentence is not correct...)

Bookmark and Share The Grammies are about the business of selling music. The prime time show represents the acts companies are dumping money into and marketing to sell. There is certainly a direct correlation between an artist receiving a Grammy and the number of records (downloads, CDs, whatever) before and after. The number of units Adele sold after the Grammies exploded to something like 750,000. Although WIAA is not in my regular rotation, I do hope it helps boost sales and funds Pat to do more adventurous and experimental projects. I dislike the Grammies because instead of exposing all the wonderful types of music and artists during the show, they bury the less commercial stuff in a pre-show. Funny how the president will do a 30 second bit a music education and show clips of young people playing cellos, timpani and trombones performing classical and jazz, but they certainly do not feature the pros playing similar instruments and music. Blah, blah... Preaching to the choir...

Bookmark and Share I continue to not care, I suppose getting some kind of recognition by the industry you’re in means something and I’m happy for Metheny. Still, I just can’t......

Bookmark and Share And to Tom and mugsy’s point, I think Pat has the won the most as a guitarist, in any category. And that’s the record that stands out the most.

Bookmark and Share To hman01, Pat doesn’t hold the record for most grammies, but I do think he has the record for the most categories won. Stevie Wonder has 22 and I believe there are others who have even more than Stevie. As long as he doesn’t win in the RAP or Country category, I’m good with it.(LoL)

Bookmark and Share I don’t understand why Pat accepts a grammy in whatever category. I mean, who - as a serious jazz musician - would want to be ranked among non musicians with names like Rihanna, LL Cool J and other inmate-like nicknames? They’re a bunch of non valeurs, would be artists and money grabbers. I rank Pat far far above them.

Bookmark and Share Come on y’all. You mean listening to WIAA doesn’t make you wanna stare at crystals and stuff? Frankly, dispite the "New Age" label,it’s more recognition for a great artist. And at 19 grammys, does that make Pat the artist who’s won the most?

Bookmark and Share On http://www.grammy.com/nominees it says that he won a Grammy for "best new age album". That’s not an award - that’s an insult ;-) Especially for an album as brilliant as WIAA.

Bookmark and Share Well congrats Pat, but what’s with the win in the "New Age" category?? How did he get nominated in there? Isn’t that supposed to be reserved for the likes of Yanni?

Bookmark and Share I have mixed feelings. I think mostly that the Grammys are hyped, AND it is really nice to see Mr. Metheny honored once again. What I really hate is that there is very seldom any public acknowledgement of jazz at the Grammy awards, except for certain awards (lifetime achievement, etc.) I wish they would cut some of the fluff and at least have five minutes devoted to jazz. Congratulations to Chick for "Forever" - a really great CD.
