Great film - not Hollywood fodder. I see Pat recommends it too- I wonder what effect one of the most poignant scenes, accompanied by Ravel’s piano concerto, slow movement, had on him - it melted me! Has anyone seen it?

Bookmark and Share I saw it and I too thought that Javier was great, not so the movie. I watch a lot of indie movies and have a lot of patience but I thought the movie was far too long and that so many scenes could have been edited out which would have made the story flow smoother. I also could have done without the "communicating with the dead" scenes of the movie. It was too much, that could have been another movie in itself. If I wasn’t with a friend I would have walked out.

Bookmark and Share Hi ’Tiny Tim’ glad you share my views - seems like nobody else has seen it or liked Biutiful? Or maybe it’s the subtitles and non-Hollywood aspect. Well, at least Pat went to see it and appreciated it.

Bookmark and Share Hi Peter, sure have seen it. Javier Bardem gives extreme credence to his charatcer, and an outstanding performance. Would not say the film was as high up there, but close, with Iñárritu’s ’21 Grams’, ’Amores Perros’, or ’Babel’. Guillermo Arriaga was not the screenwriter of Biutiful. Correct, the music for the film was spot on. Especially that sceen you mention. A hard film, touching at moments, never sentimentally Hollywood-ish. A must see.
