I saw them yesterday evening here in Holland with ’new kid’ Chuck Loeb and had a great time. I know it’s smooth and all but boy these guys still can play!

Bookmark and Share Hambone, no way I would say anything against Carlton! I mean he was especially great when he was a member of Crusaders!!! Those were the days! But somehow for me, Loeb is more suited for Fourplay’s type of fusion! ;)

Bookmark and Share Time is on their side. The first Fourplay album in 1991 is a contemporary jazz classic and only gets better with age. Bali Run, youtube it to see the live version off the DVD with the original members...wow.

Bookmark and Share I agree,Loeb is a very talented guitarist. But don’t discount Larry Carlton while he was with the band. He’s not too shabby either. He sat in with Steely Dan a few nights this year, just like old days.

Bookmark and Share I think they are pretty cool fusion band. I have 5 albums! Chuck Loeb is a very good guitarist. Actually he’s great. Recently I discovered his "Metro" project with Mitch Forman and was amazed with their playing and compositions. There are one - two Metheny like tunes on every album of Metro! Anyway, Chuck is the best replacement after Ritenour left Fourplay!

Bookmark and Share They’re playing London in a few days (The Clapham Grand) but they clash other events in the London Jazz Festival. I’ve a feeling it won’t be a sellout. Cheers John

Bookmark and Share I´m afraid to say I completely missed the Boerderij gig (my 2 last ones there: Yellowjackets, Mike Stern). Hopefully I will be able to go to the next performance, provided there will be one.

Bookmark and Share a guilty pleasure indeed The Hague. Did you go to the concert, Zoetermeer is kind of in your backyard, isn’t it ?

Bookmark and Share Yes, they are all great players and should not really be subject to the "smooth" criticism.
