I’ve been trying to find out when the LAGQ (Los Angeles Guitar Quartet) will be releasing a recording with Pat’s composition "Road to the Sun?" I’ve contacted them without a response. Hopefully whatever needs to be worked out to get this composition to our ears happens sooner than later. I’ve been eagerly waiting to hear it. The LAGQ are amazing players. I can’t remember Pat doing anything like this before. Maybe Santa got my letter :) |

The night I received my copy of the RTTS CD I listened to the four tracks performed by Jason Vieaux. Last night I finished listening to the rest of the record. Brilliant, excellent and another surprise from Pat. Fantastic compositions by Pat that had the Pat sound running through the compositions. Another genre for Pat to win another Grammy, what’s next for Pat? Fur Alina is unbelievable, I can’t believe all the sounds were created with one instrument. It sounded like more than 42 strings. Every track was different and played brilliantly. Hopefully some day we will be able to see it performed live. Another CD from Pat to get me through the Coronavirus Shutdown. Thank You Pat!! |

Mind officially blown. Bravo! Ever since Jason Vieaux said in a podcast 2 yrs ago that he was working on some music that Pat had written for him I’ve been waiting with anticipation. I’ve listened to the CD 3 times since receiving it yesterday. All 11 tracks bring alot of emotion and melody with only acoustic guitars. The last song Arvo Part played by Pat on his 42 string guitar was the icing on the cake. I could definitely see playing this while driving thru the Going-to-the-sun Road in Montana. |

I received the Road To The Sun CD and signed RTTS Print in the mail today. Somehow I also received a copy of the CD that a person in Monroe NJ was supposed to get. I can’t figure out how the USPS managed to ship a package with an address label for a person in NJ to me in Evanston IL. I haven’t listened to the CD yet. Will update when I do. The Print is super cool, I may frame with the other six prints I have from previous Pat CDs. |

It looks like Pat is performing the last piece on the album "Für Alina." It was written by Arvo Pärt. It’s played on the 42-string guitar. Can’t wait to hear it (and the entire album)!!! |

It’s been, what, a month since Part 2 of Road to the Sun was made available? I’m here to say that every night I’ve been listening to this piece on headphones, and enjoying it more each time. When I first heard it at the world premiere two years ago, I could only grasp impressions and fragments, rushing by like the fleeting roadside views Pat saw on a drive up Going-to-the-Sun road in Glacier National Park. Now that I’ve made the trip many more times, I start to see the map, the lay of the land. This piece has the spirit of Pat’s most uplifting, joyous work. It’s the opposite of the Blues, but it has soul. The section with Jason Vieux promises to something quite different, as the available excerpt suggests. Pat Metheny isn’t just my favorite guitarist. He’s my favorite composer. I’ve been waiting for him to stretch his legs again with long-form composition, like TWU. The wait is almost over... |

I’m psyched by reading Jason Vieaux will be playing on Pat’s new release. He’s an amazing classical guitarist who is a fan of Pat’s and has already produced a cd of Pat’s music. I’ve been fortunate to see him twice and he is definitely the perfect choice. I can’t wait to hear it! |

I just went to Store at Pat’s website to check out the Road To The Sun details. The last track is Pat’s arrangement of an Arvo Part composition for 42 string guitar. Either Pat is playing the 42 string guitar or LAGQ + Jason Vieaux = 42 strings. Hopefully it is only Pat. |

I just read online article at JazzWise (magazine) regarding Pat’s Road To The Sun record. Pat composed all the music to be performed by the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet. The LAGQ performs a six movement piece, Road To The Sun (with Pat playing piano) and Jason Vieaux (guitar) performing a four movement solo guitar composition, Four Paths Of Light. I believe the LAGQ and Jason Vieaux are considered classical musicians. It looks like Pat may be able to add one more genre to his Grammy resume. It is still confusing as the article said that the CD was on the new label BMG and Pat’s website Pre-Order says it is on Nonesuch. Regardless I will probably buy it. |

I might be the only one here who’s been waiting to hear it again. I attended the premiere at the University of Denver, in a majestic concert hall that was packed- mostly, I imagine, by season ticket holders unfamiliar with Pat’s oeuvre. They responded to the piece warmly, though I suspect the pick-scratching section had them scratching their balding heads. |

Thanks for the info Kejur. I’m so excited about this release composed by my favorite musician. |

Fantastic News, thanks for the effort Kejur The only thing i did hear & saw from the piece was some rehearsal footage with LAGQ and Pat on Youtube. The length of the piece is around an half hour. |

Well, here it is folks. The answer. Matt Greif of the LAGQ just got back to me and said that the official release date for the recording of Pat’s "Road to the Sun" has been set for March 5, 2021! Very exciting!!!!! |
roeltie Oct 23 2020 at 4:26 PM |
I’ve read somewhere in an interview with The LAGQ Quartet that releasing the piece is in Pat’s hands ! In 2017 Pat wrote a piece "Yuryung" for the Ahn Trio. This is a classic piano-trio with three sisters. It’s a shorter composition than Road To The Sun and I just added this because it is a little bit similar in the way Pat wrote it, in this case specifically for the Ahn trio. It is on their album "Blue" Enjoy the music Roeltie |
