I was saddened to read of Nana Vasconcelos passing today. I harken back to the Travels tour and album and his great musicianship. Especially on The Fields, The Sky, which remains one of my favorite Metheny songs of all time. His berimbao playing and sensitive touch to other percussion instruments was what opened the door for Pat to explore with other percussionists to come later. As a novice hand percussionist he was an inspiration and a true steward to the beautiful music he created. RIP Nana. |
