Just read the news that Pat is artist-in-residence for Detroit Jazz, and will be playing various venues with Gary Burton, Ron Carter, and recent group members among others. Bad news is most of us aren’t too close to Detroit. Didn’t realize Detroit was such a jazz hotspot. But it’s got to be if it has Pat. All the best , Pat, for an enjoyable season and some great new recordings !!

Bookmark and Share I live in Chicago and the last five years I have attended the Chicago Jazz Festival. This year when it was announced that Pat was the Artist-In-Residence I made the decision to go to Detroit. Then when the lineup for the Chicago Jazz Festival came out I knew I made the right decision as it is very weak. Pat trumps all.

Bookmark and Share Unfortunately, I won’t be making it to Detroit or Uppsala. But, y’all have a great time and send us reports of concerts, jam sessions, etc. Thanks!

Bookmark and Share That’s the way I would go. The crowds can get rather large and there is always room in the VIP sections which are right in front. Note there are also after hours jam sessions in the hotel lounge every night.

Bookmark and Share Uh, it would be 4000 km from my city. I wouldn’t stay in Detroit anyway as a Canadian - not a great exchange rate. Just take the tunnel bus from Windsor every day as I note also that the venues are practically on the border. Oh well, just a thought.

Bookmark and Share Yes, METHaddicted, I believe it is all free ... Lots of acreage . Just don’t know how crowded it would be, given it’s free. I was wondering if a tent and sleeping bag might be allowable.::).). .....if so, . I might even travel 2000 mi to see it...... ,of course, a friend in the Detroit area would be ideal.

Bookmark and Share I also live near Detroit and am so looking forward to the jazz festival. I didn’t get to see him play with Gary Burton when they toured together 8 or 9 years ago (one of the few Metheny shows I’ve passed up in the last 20 years), so I’m really looking forward to seeing that one.

Bookmark and Share I am from Detroit so I am geeked to say the least. The Detroit Jazz Fest has been trending up in recent years. One could camp out all weekend from Friday evening until Monday night without having to listen to anything but great music and musicians. We just need to get Fred Simon to play next.
