Question:

Pat,

I have seen you play with the Group and with smaller projects in many different venues and all the shows have been great (I honestly have been blown away by each show).

I was fortunate enough to have seen you with Michael Brecker's group at the Iron Horse in Northhampton, MA and it was amazing. I think it was the energy of the band and the crowd combined with the fact that it was a small venue. Do you find that playing in smaller places allows you to take it out a little bit more than playing in front a larger crowd? Do you think you will be back there anytime soon? I have heard that playing places like that either makes the headlining musician lose money or they just break even, if that is the case, I just want to thank you for doing it because from a fan's standpoint, I find it a real privilege to be able to see you play in a setting like the Iron Horse.

All the best, Bob

Pat’s Answer:

hi bob,

i love playing the iron horse and places like that. i actually do really prefer that size of a venue (or smaller) - but, i also love playing in big places too, although it took me a lot of years to figure out exactly how to feel comfortable in those really big kinds of situations - clubs were always easier since i grew up playing in places like that. but specifically, the iron horse is great - i really love playing there. something about the setup and the really nice people who run it and northhampton itself make it a special favorite for myself and many other musicians.

thanks for writing in from pat
