Question:

First of all let me tell you that I love your music alot...Here is a simple question for you:

Since from the beginning of your long career, you have always done records radically different from one another; why is it so important for you to change so often and so heavily? Do other members of the group (Lyle and Steve, particularly) always agree with these changes?

Pat’s Answer:

there is a famous quote by sonny rollins, one of my favorites, that goes;"music is an open sky". i just want to explore all that i can in a true way. i actually don't really think the records are "radically" different from each other but i'm willing to admit that i may be in the minority there. in fact, one of things i'm most proud of is how all of the records go together to (hopefully) tell one long story.

as far as how everyone in the group reacts to my ideas, i think it varies depending on the quality of my ideas! generally though, i think those guys trust me to trust my instincts which is something i really appreciate.
