Question: | The fretless nylon-string solo on "Imaginary Day" is pretty stunning. |
Pat’s Answer: |
That's a great instrument--kinda like a slide guitar, except you can really get around on it. But I'll tell you, my admiration for bassists, violinists, cellists, oud players. . .man, that is I hard . And on my shoulder at all times, whispering in my ear, is the intonation king of all time, Jaco [Pastorius], who was relentlessly critical of anybody playing any fretless instrument even a little bit out of tune. The standard that he set is pretty high, but I'm happy with the results that are on there. |
