jazziz22 -- posts on this website indicate that the shows are 2-1/2 to 3 hours long. The encores are worth staying for, from all reports, unless your 9 year old can’t stay up that late. I took our boys to the Trio show several years ago when they were in middle school, but it was a school night and we had to leave after 2 hours.

I delayed getting tickets for the Keswick show and finally got them...way in the back of the house. Lots of Philly area
fans. At least I am in the house for another Metheny show. Of course I will be invited back stage. Not. I will see all you
PMheads on the 22nd.

Off from work today to catch the PMUG in Virginia Beach tonight. We haven’t told our 14 y/o daughter why
we are going to VA Beach today. My daughter has been a PM fan literally since she was in the womb (played
Imaginary Day among others daily through headphones placed on her mom’s belly). She came home one
day when she was in the first grade disgusted that no one else in her class knew who they were.
When I loaded Kin on her ipod last week she asked if we would be able to see the PMUG this year. I told her
that they were not touring anywhere nearby (even though I had already bought tickets). Can’t wait to see her
face tonight.

Florida Theatre in Jacksonville was packed. There wasn’t much publicity but this group of KINfolks didn’t need it..they all
found the time and place. There is nothing like seeing Metheny and his bands live surrounded by other people who
love it as much as you do. I strongly advise going to more than one concert if you can. One to take the whole thing in
and a second, third, or fourth time (I would be supremely jealous) for the layers of nuance and to slip deeper into the
music. And do you have any idea how wonderful it was to experience live music with a whole group of people who had
their phones turned off and put away. We have become wired to hold our gadgets and run a play by play for our
friends that we wish were here and in the process we are not present either. I like House of Blues best because without
chairs on the floor people gravitate into clusters and begin to breathe together..but aaaahhhh I had to work.

PMUG show was part of The Chicago Symphony Center Jazz Series so I have my usual seat in the Lower Balcony, first row close to center.
Long story short because I contributed $100 to help keep the Jazz Series going I get to go backstage after three concerts. My first choice was Pat Metheny. So far have gone backstage for Joshua Redman and Branford Marsalis shows.
The person from the Symphony Center who I talked to wined and dined me. That night he had a proposal for me.
If I sponsored Pat’s concert I get my name in the program and lobby sign and I will get private time with Pat after the show. Some further perks may come later. It was pretty expensive but I wanted to find a special way to celebrate turning 60 this year. I think this will be it.

Just got a box seat for Sunday at Mahaffey in St.Pete. Purchased late because I was debating
with everything going on in my life, whether I’d have enough energy to go.Now,that I’ve purchased my ticket,I have all this spare energy.I’m definitely stoked.I’ve seen every Metheny concert in the Tampa Bay area since 1982. How could I possibly miss this one? Nothin’ compares to Metheny!

Hi j21, yeah, Boston is very expensive, though it’s been years since I’ve been there. I’ve been to The Florida
Theatre in Jax. IIRC, I saw Steve Morse there back in the day. It is a cool place. I wonder how much promotion
they did for the PMUG show there? I bet minimal if any. I know here in Tampa there has been no mention
whatsoever (as far as I’ve seen, and I’ve been looking) of Pat’s show here Sunday. In fact I just checked the
weekend section of today’s Friday paper and finally the show is at least mentioned - buried in the short list
of Jazz/Blues upcoming concerts. And they even got the name wrong - called them Pat Metheny and Unity
Group. I’m assuming there is very little promotion for these shows and I realize PMUG is not U2 but c’mon!
Some mention would get more butts in the seats. Kind of disappointing that this incredible group and music
does not get wider attention, but then again it’s their loss and our gain. I’m taking an old friend who is
disabled, for a surprise late Christmas/early Birthday present. I turned him into a Pathead years ago and
since he doesn’t/can’t get out often, I’m sure he’ll get blown away once again and it’ll be good for his psyche.
2 more days!

Two tickets landed on my doorstep for the London/Hammersmith gig 11 June. Probably like "The Way Up" 2005 pre-gig celebration, we’ll organize a pub rendez-vous on the Thames River, west of the Hammersmith Bridge. Already have a possee of jazz troopers who’ll also attend with me. All systems go!

Got tix for Keswick in Philly area for March 22nd. Saw the Unity Band last time through. It was outside at Longwood
Gardens which was kinda cool, plus seats were only a few rows back. Keswick is an old hole in the wall and tixs are near
the back. At least I am in the house. Looking forward to hearing them spread out on some of these tunes.

Willbur, yes, I’m from a place on the coast of GA. Now living in North Attleboro, MA..about 35 miles south of Boston. Like it, mostly. Don’t get into Boston much...it’s so damn expensive! I would’ve loved to have seen the show last night in Jacksonville, FL. The Florida Theatre there is a great place to see a show. I called late yesterday afternoon for the hell of it to see what kind of seats were available and you could get 6th row for 40 bucks a seat. Enjoy and please report to us after!!

Hi j21, yeah, I took a long sabbatical from the site - fun with jobs, health, etc but I’m hanging in there now and I
guess I’m just excited about the St Pete show in a few days, so I jumped back in. Thanks for asking. I’ll try to
post more than once every 5 years now. IIRC, aren’t you from Georgia? Now living in Boston?? Hope that’s
going OK, my bro used to live in Boston and I always enjoyed the city. Anyway, keeping this music/site related,
hope you enjoy the show, I’m definitely getting psyched. Haven’t seen Pat since the Orchestrion tour - he
didn’t come to the Tampa/St Pete area during the PMUB tour. Again, enjoy the show and best wishes!

so very strong and also the songs tell a story yet as whole there always that signature Metheny variation!

Reminder & update for those attending the St Petersburg, FL gig on Sunday 2/9. The Salvador Dali museum,
which is located right down the street from the Mahaffey Theatre, is showcasing an Andy Warhol exhibit
entitled "Art. Fame. Mortality." from 1/18 - 4/27. The museum is open from 12pm - 5:30pm on Sunday. Just in
case any Patheads want to check it out before the gig.

For years I have been looking on this site hoping one day I would see Australia get a gig. In 2006 The Trio came to Perth without being anounced on the tour schedule. I was lucky enough to have a sister in law that saw the concert advertised as part of the festival of Perth and knew I would want to know. So from then on I seach Australian music festivals as well as this web site, but I don’t hold my breath.

Very Cool, healthy_scratch. I’d suggest adding another "M" to your Lafayette itinerary. There’s an incredible Cajun
Restaurant in Lafayette, Mulates. Very famous and definitely worth the visit - especially if you like Crawfish. They have
these marble tables with holes in the middle for the discarded Crawfish shells and they bring out a hugh boil-pot of
Crawfish, Red Potatoes and Corn on the Cob and they dump it all on your table. A wonderful & unique culinary
experience! Highly recommended.

I cannot believe it! I got invited to a cousins wedding in NOLA in February and figured hell I have never been I am
going. As I do I immediately check the area concert calendar and low and behold on Feb 18th PMUG in Lafayette.
Given that I am flying from Madrid Spain to New Orleans another 2 hours to Lafayette is a no brainer for me on this
one - looks like I am headed to my 21st Metheny show and first in the US as I just bought one of the last front row
tickets. I am beyond psyched. So a week in Louisiana which I have been dying to visit since my youth devouring
Twain books. Its going to be M - Week Metheny, Mardi Gras and a Marriage.
Now all we need is for PMUG to swing by Madrid in June or July for an outdoor gig and my 2014 is made. I had the
pleasure of seeing PMUG at the Vittoria Jazz Festival last summer and these guys are smokin. First off the interplay
built up between Pat and Antonio is telepathic, and add in Mr. Potter who has always been so tasteful on his own
and when I have seen with Dave Holland, creates a band that is simply the schitnzel. The setlist was amazing as well
lots of 80-81 material some Song X and trio classics they were groovin all night.
Now wIth the addition of the multi-instrumentalist would open up the songbook to some PMG deep cuts as well
this time. But more than anything I would also love to see KC Blues or however it is entitled, that unrecorded blues
track Pat wrote I believe that he has been playing on off. I have it first with the PMG on a recording from I believe
1982 at the Montreal Jazz Fest and on and off it has popped up occasionally in trio situations over the years, please
dust that bad boy off. The chord solo PM throws down on the 82 MJF is phenomenal, and the other version that
springs to mind that sounded great to these ears was one with Joshua Redman on sax (Turcoing, France). While I am
in request mode you would hear no complaints from me to hear Double Guatemala as well. Two of the more
obscure forgotten gems from the catalogue that the PMUG could bring some depth and fresh air to.
All hail PMUG 2014!

Nice seats, Patdman. Yes it seems the tickets for this tour have started becoming available sooner than most of Pat’s tours. Maybe it has something to do with the holidays being right around the corner, maybe just advanced bookings he doesn’t normally get. Either way it should give everyone ample time to secure tickets, and hopefully sell out every venue. I’m going to put mine in my Xmas stocking, just as a teaser!

Thanks for the link to First Circle, Hambone! Scary good...............
Was able to log on at 10:00 this morning and snag a pair of ’pre-sale’ tix for the Portland, OR show in March. Front row seats 13-14 pretty much dead center! I lost track of the times we have seen Pat starting in the 70’s, but I don’t think we have ever been this close. Kind of nice that the first few rows were actually available to mere mortals! March is less than 5 moths away.............

I’ll be at one or two shows along the way. It’s wild how the original PMG went from four members and expanded to five, then included more as time passed. Now, the PMUB goes from four players to five of the PMUG into no telling what the future will bring.

Speaking of the Mahaffey Theatre in St Petersburg (and Wilbur ;), I’m de-lurking briefly to shout out to anyone going to
the Mahaffey show on Sunday, 2/9. The newly-renovated Salvador Dali Museum is pretty much next door to the
