Since no one’s mentioned Heart, I must say they do killer Zep renditions. I’ve seen them perform stellar versions of Battle of Evermore, Going to California, Immigrant Song and others. Heart is on tour with Jason Bonham this summer.

With Dweezil it seems to be about
paying homage to Frank as much as
it is about exposing his vast musical
catalog to a new generation, in the
process ensuring that it isn’t
forgotten, which is a concern
considering the lack of mainstream
play. A ZPZ show is an incredible
thing to behold. There is zero selling
out going on there. In fact there’s a
real sense that Dweezil has found
himself through his father’s music, a
humble servant to a musical legacy
that deserves to live on under the
family name.

"the hague"-Pat Boone sings "Stairway to
Heaven" on a CD titled "In a Metal
Mood:No More Mr. Nice Guy".It actually
has a little lilt to it and when those big
band horns kick in it makes you wanna
say HEY!

Like what Dweezil Zappa is doing with his father’s legacy, Jason’s rendition can be seen as homage to his father. However, it can also be seen as the easy way, taking advantage somewhat of a name and a reputation. If it were done tastefully: okay. But indeed this rendition is a bit over the top. I can’t help thinking this is easy and safe commercialism, probably suggested by the record company (I don’t dount Jason’s integrity in any way). It’s a pity moreover, as Jason is indeed a very promising rockdrummer. He can be succesful all on his own merit. Be my guest to like it however.

"The Jason Bonham Experience" Is a tribute to Led Zepplin and his dad. Just as Dweezil Zappa does with his fathers music. You consider playing the music of one of the greatest rock bands of all time being lost........?? Jason Bonham is a rock drummer, and a good one to. For the time being, i say no better place for him. He will find his way. He already has.

If Jason devotes himself to this commercialized shit, then he will be lost. Such a pity, because he is a promising drummer.

I meant to say "Maybe it overdone to your taste but I DON’T know where you think it was pompous."

I don’t know, looks like a very slick live production to me. Quite an arrangement. Plant & Page seemed to like it plenty. You certainly don’t want to play a lame version with them sitting out there. And lets face it, Ann Wilson just kills it.

I viewed this link which is a performance of Led Zepplin’s Stairway to Heaven. Great vocals , I loved the supporting choir, in total the performance transended the original without dimiinishing it, amazing. Thanks for posting this .
Pretty funny lead-in with Tiger Woods and Arnold Palmer also.
