Saw the film yesterday, still waiting
for the pre-ordered blu-ray. Have to
say I was underwhelmed with the
presentation. Title page, then song,
fade to next title page hen song,
repeat. No behind the scenes, no
introduction. Same setup, lighting
and camera angles or each song.
Albeit, I enjoy he music, as a fan and
someone who attended two
Orchestrion shows, I found the
theater presentation disappointing.
They should have mixed in some
behind the scenes and Q&A
throughout. Also the set has the
Orchestrion instruments buried with
lots of random nic-nacs trying give a
sense of an attic or a mad scientist
lab. There are books, bubbling
beakers, an alligator, clock, candles,
spheres, lanterns, etc, that take away
from the instruments.
The quality is good and if have 3D
and 7.1 setup, you take advantage of
this production.
I think I would have rather seen a
true live performance, with the
audience and Pat talking and
demonstrating his Orchestrion.

I think the PG rating stands for Pat’s Greatness!
The Hague - I did pre-order the DVD - I am waiting patiently (OK, not so patiently).

Hey,I just saw where this film was rated
PG13. I can’t imagine there would be
L.S,or V. in the movie. What would justify
this rating? I suppose I have felt a high
when hearing great music. I guess we
should be wary of firing up any
endorphins in our youth? Go figure.

I was also at the Balboa, SF show. I was shocked that there were only about 25 people in the audience!
I thought it was a really well done production that felt like an intimate setting of Pat playing with the bots. Watching him go through the suite (and other songs) was just so amazing. He gets totally lost in the music! I was a little disappointed that there was none of the interviews or Pat explaining his work in the entire film.

Maybe the PG rating is a new category for this type of film and may mean "Pat’s a Genius".?!

The Ironic thing about all this is, watching the trailer when it says Pat Metheny the Winner of 19 Grammy Awards. Pat never won a Grammy for this colossal modern day achievement. The Grammy Gremlins were asleep at the switch on this one. As far as I am concerned it deserves a Pulitzer also. Hopefully the film will educate more people to the significance of Orchestrion. Bottom line is , if you think about it I could not see any other Musician on earth that would have the vision and intelligence to do something of this scale other than Pat. And that’s pretty special.

I have tickets to see the movie at the
local theater on the 6th. I also pre-
ordered the blu-ray. I have seen the
"O" live twice. Looking forward to the
recorded performance. I hope it does
it justice.

Maybe the PG rating is for a different
reason. Sometimes it takes "Parental
Guidance" for kids to learn about great
music. Just a thought.

Thanks for posting this. I noticed the film is rated PG. Are robots considered a bad influence on children?
