Five chapters in and really enjoying this new book.
Particularly great quote from Pat on ’April Joy’: "It was the first indication that I might be able to get to the thing that was starting to emerge in that zone I was hearing; somewhere in between Wayne Shorter and Dolly Parton" |

Yesterday I received an email from Port Merchandise (Pat’s Store) telling me that my copy of the new book is being
processed. I may receive for my 70th birthday next Thursday. It will be a perfect present.

I just went to the Question and Answer link above and searched for "Autobiography". Someone mentioned the
Interviews book and asked Pat if he was going to write an autobiography. Pat’s response was "maybe in forty
years".The date of the post was 1999, so my prediction was pretty close. I’ll wait for it and Pre-Order now.

I enjoyed the "Interviews" book and "Missouri Skies" books but found the ECM book to technical music-wise for my
brain. I am looking forward to receiving the new book this month as it sounds like it’s less technical. Hopefully when
Pat finally retires from touring, he will write his autobiography. I don’t expect it until at least until 2044 and will
probably be two volumes. I remember in Question And Answer at this website someone asked Pat if he was planning
to write a book.

Yes I have Naut. What an excellent writer Carolyn Glenn Brewer is too. For someone who has only visited KC once (I live in the UK) the book created a wonderful backdrop to that crucial period for the maestro.

Yo jeansteinmann, I forgot to mention "Beneath Missouri Skies," which I assume you’ve read as well. It’s worth checking out, about Pat’s early years in KC. BTW, Pat turns 70 today. Happy Birthday Maestro! (I’m supposed to get a copy of "Stories Beyond Words" today, which will be kind of cool, since it’s Pat’s milestone day.)

Yes thanks Naut. Have read those two and enjoyed them very much. It’s always good when a new book comes out and then prompts a deep listening dive into Pat’s records.

Big thanks for the heads-up on this book, jeansteinmann. Much appreciated. My guess is you know the interviews book and The ECM Years book. Both worth checking out.
