(Note: This post contains spoilers for the closing song in Metheny’s Dream Box tour) Hello, Metheny fans! I’ve been a huge fan of Metheny for a few years now and just two days ago, I had the pleasure of seeing him live for the first time ever! In short, I loved it. Much of his work fills me with such peace and this show was much the same. He really showcased his adoration for the guitar, he talked a lot in the first half (apparently a rarity at his shows, according to him?), and he just seemed like such a lovable guy. What really stunned me was his closing song: An instrumental cover of Glen Campbell’s "Wichita Lineman." I held onto every note, it was just absolutely gorgeous. It was such a perfect combo because Metheny is one of my Top 5 favorite artists ever and Wichita Lineman is an easy Top 5 song of all time in my mind. I can still hear him playing the song right now because of how much of a dream come true it was. I would like to kindly request something: If anybody has any kind of audio recording of him playing this, can you please provide it? Or if anyone going to any of his later shows is willing to, can you make an audio recording of him playing this wonderful piece? I don’t care whether or not it’s a video recording (in fact, I don’t think he allows video recordings so I would like to respect that), just audio is all I really need or want. He seems to play it at the very end after coming back for a second encore, and it’s all just him on one guitar (after doing a bunch of other fun antics with other instruments I won’t spoil), so it should hopefully be easy to tell when he’s about to play it. I do hope he eventually thinks to record this song for an album or put it on a Dream Box tour live album (I will absolutely purchase it without a second thought), but in case he doesn’t, it would mean the world to me if someone could capture this. As of now, there seem to be no recordings of him performing the song at all, even on a previous tour if he’s even ever played it (setlist.fm seems to indicate he hasn’t) Thank you all very much, and even if you can’t fulfill this request, please check out this tour. It was my first time ever seeing him, but even I could tell the man’s in top form.
