Well, foper, at least a few others of us were complicit in the activities you described, and the blame is certainly not
singularly your own. I do understand that our actions had significance -- particularly if that’s what really brought
down the basement (pun possibly intended). =)
I suspect the scenario you’re referring to was simply one of a long line of things that led to the shutdown, so I hope
you won’t continue to beat yourself up over it. I, myself, have moved on and started drinking barley’s beer again, just
in a different location!

Shoff... I don’t. It’s a place of personal embarrassment for me. I hold a big sense of responsibility for it shutting down. I overstepped in a big way. What makes it worse is not knowing if Pat ever paid much attention to this site and if he holds a bit of anger towards those that were involved in that whole thing. I’m certain his very hectic life probably doesn’t give him any time to pay attention to all of this and really doesn’t care; but there is part of me that thinks maybe he does and it kind of pains me to know that I was part of ruining it. And I owe everyone that enjoyed The Basement a huge apology – especially jimfocus and Pat.

The Basement was a place to "discuss" non music related topics; a
social environment that was made up of Pat Metheny fans. I am here
for news and discussion about Pat and his musical projects - I like that
focus.

Boston… PeeWee said it better than I could, but I think you’re being a little unfair. No one forced anyone to delve into the basement. And you participated regularly. I’m glad I know about all the views that exist out there and am thankful for the diversity. I wont elaborate on what I think about your narrow view of conservatives as basement-talk is dead here. I learned a lot about folks and myself through those discussions. I am currently friends with some that hold various views. Yes, I have regrets about the basement – of my own doing (or undoing depending on your point of view) – but I appreciate what it was. Such places are important if you’re willing to maintain an open enough mind to accept there are differences out there.

I don’t agree that the Basement was a mistake...for one thing, it was in response to continual requests/complaints to Management to stem the tide of "non-musical" threads that kept "polluting" the otherwise pristine forum. By creating a separate area for "non-musical" discussion, it allowed the "League of Decency" to have a safer environment in which to carry on in their more restrictive banter...after all, what can possibly be more important and socially relevant than knowing what someone’s "favorite PMG album" is, or providing a pissing contest in areas such as "in what year was YOUR first PMG concert?" Just the same, that apparently wasn’t enough, and some folks just refused to NOT tune in... Secondly, the Basement let you get to know people on more profound and different levels...how they think, believe, and react. To me, it let people explore their levels of humor and reasoning, and essentially revealed that the listenership/visitorship is basically a very diverse world in microcosm...and provided a further opportunity for identification and bonding. Pat doesn’t hesitate to provide an insight into his own philosophical leanings (via the "Pat Recommends" page...). Unfortunately, there are some who are nonetheless offended...or curiously disturbed.

Js, the moderator here confirmed my thoughts. He even asked S. to acknowledge the fact himself, which he didn’t. That’s why he got banned. In fact, S. had over 10 different handles. Remember indeed Buzz, Omarkhayyam, My78song, perhaps even that lizard guy (forgot his handle) and several others. Oh well, let it rest. Maybe it’s not a good omen we are discussing this.

When will the brainwashed masses wake up. What happened to the basement is a mirror of what is happening around us. The bankster criminals and their lizard masters seek to brainwash and condition the people and close those internet sources that seek to expose their secret workings. It is no coincidence that since the basement closed, their international frauds have crippled the global economy subjugated us with war and the fear of terrorism to make puppets of us. The general masses are duped and utterly compliant to their mind control propaganda, not aware that he ruling elite are the cause of wars, famine, disease. They will try to shut down the internet and likely trigger false flag attacks to distract the people and rally them to false causes. All to get the enslaved masses to relinquish their individual freedoms and rights and become micro-chipped! The elite are creating the oil conflict for competition and that by the economic destruction of U.S. will make western world third world. The herd are brainwashed and conditioned by phony education and media which allows them to rule as knowledge of truth proves the truth of conspiracy. Denial is the dragon we all must slay.
