With over 100 performances in less than two weeks, I had the honor of second row seats to Eliane Elias on Thursday here in Portland/Vansterdam. Pat and his band will finish the festival next Sunday night. I will be seeing him on Saturday in Eugene at the Shedd Institute..........a beautiful venue, as was the Winningstad Theatre in Portland where Ms. Elias played. Her stage presence and beautiful sensual artistry is an amazing gift to hear and see. Marc Johnson (Anyone remember the "Sound of Summer Running?") on bass and two amazing Brazilian guys whose names I have to look up .....................beautiful guitar and an amazing drummer (he gets dangerously close to the chops of Antonio but with a smaller kit)..........a special night...............that woman can play as the 10 foot Steinway was "bouncing;..........beautiful interaction between musicians and the audience........Out world and our value systems need more jazz more often................... |

I would love to hear "Foujita played live (from Marc Johnson’s and E.E.’s "Swept Away" cd). One of my favorite tunes from last year.
