Looking at John Kelman’s Best Releases of 2012 made me wonder how muc it would cost to buy all of these fine CD’s. My budget is very limited as I have 4 mouths to feed besides mine (not to mention clothing ,college tuition, piano lessons, etc.). I know of the term starving musician snd like to buy as much music as I can afford. My question is "How much do some of you spend each year on music ?

Bookmark and Share franksexton: The big name groups play Thursday thru Sunday. Thursday $20 Friday-Sunday $25 Sometimes may be $25 & $30 for special bands like Dave Holland Sextet. Thanks for checking out the video. That was my big highlight for the year and my 15 minutes plus of fame.

Bookmark and Share Marc. I found your video. Jazz Showcase reminded me of what Baker’s Keybooard Lounge in Detroit used to be like. How much is it to catch a show there ?

Bookmark and Share franksexton: I narrowed my list to the top 25. Among them Vijay Iyer, Scofield Trio, Miguel Zenon, SFJAZZ Collective, Gerald Clayton Trio,Roy Hargrove Quintet,Jason Moran and the Bandwagon, The Bad Plus, Matt Wilson’s Arts and Crafts,Keith jarrett, Gateway (Dejohnette, abercrombie&Holland),Anat Cohen Quartet and more. If I have several more years like that I won’t have any money to take with me. May have to make my casket from CDs. Would look kind of cool.

Bookmark and Share What’s rather sick about me is, despite getting all this free music, I still spend a surprising amount buying more. I hear an artist for the first time and, of course, I’ve gotta go back and check out his/her back catalog, now don’t I? :)

Bookmark and Share In 2012 I saw 110 Jazz bands live and bought about 50 CD’s. I don’t want to think about how much I spent because it brought so much joy to my life. Also I can’t count that high.

Bookmark and Share I was single for quite a bit of my adult life.I used to spend hundreds of dollars a year on music. But,now with Mrs. Hman and the mum in-law,I’ve toned down my purchases quite a bit.Since I buy on iTunes now,I try to sample as much as I can before I hit the BUY button.Although the samples don’t give you a complete idea of all the music.

Bookmark and Share I would be afraid to actually keep count. I buy a lot of music and now that I iTunes is in the world - I buy a lot more. I have a significant hearing loss so I cannot consider myself an audiophile. The advantage for me is that digital music sounds "fine" to me, so I can afford to buy more of it. Of course, there are certain musicians that I still buy the actual CDs - as MP3 will just not cut it. I also like to read the liner notes that are pretty scarce on iTunes.

Bookmark and Share I try to support between 100 and 200 releases a year. I would say 30percent of those are remastered classic material.Over the years a serious library of LP’s, 78’s,cassette and cd’s has been built up. The cassettes were used in my last car right up until 2009. I must say that the Bose earbuds has made a tremendous difference when listening to music on the laptop. I did not enjoy the ipod or computer listening experience until these balanced little charmers came along.
