Just got tickets for Pat’s Unity Band gig at Longwood Gardens. Its an intriguing lineup. What do you think we should expect from Pat with Chris Potter, Antonio Sanchez and Ben Williams? Will it be new, progressive and edgy or retreading standards and ole stuff?

Bookmark and Share My suggestion is to listen to Pat’s 80/81 and then listen to Chris Potter’s "Unspoken" with John Scofield, Dave Holland and Jack DeJohnette. Then imagine how it would sound if you substituted Antonio Sanchez on drums and Ben Williams on bass. Better yet hope that you get a chance to see them live. I know it will be a great show.

Bookmark and Share Yes--Seattle just added to the Unity Band tour! Now if they could just add a show in Yakima! Pat and Larry rehearsed there last Sept. and did 2 shows. Great surprise, and a wonderful small venue.

Bookmark and Share Frank, that sounds like an amazing line-up and should be a great event. Reading Pa just hosted the 22nd Berks Jazz fest from 3/24-4/1 and put on some excellant shows. I was able to see, George Benson, Pat Martino, Bela Fleck and the Tones, Anat Cohen, Eldar and the wrap up finale was Chick Corea solo piano on Sunday. It’s like my Christmas and birthday week all in one. Anat had Ben Williams on bass and I talked to him for a few minutes afterwards and asked him about the Unity Band project.I’d never seen or heard him perform before and was very impressed. He has a beautiful touch and technique, with very creative solos. He should really fit right in with Pat,Chris and Antonio. He sounded excited to get started and said Pat had written a lot of new material already and he was working on some himself. August can’t come soon enough now!

Bookmark and Share I am sure Unity Band will be great, hoping to catch them in Europe somewhere, which was always my dream for PMG. The full PMG not been together since 2005, sure wish they could re-form and tour, even to play existing tunes, ie without a new record to promote. Overwhelming support from us no doubt, sellouts at every venue.

Bookmark and Share I saw Pat play with the Unity Band at a small club in upstate New York 2 weeks ago and already posted a review on the "Pat and Chris Potter" thread, but for those who didn’t see it I’ll give a brief synopsis. The entirety of the 2 hour-long sets they played was new material Pat wrote specifically for this group (he mentioned he wrote about 20 new tunes). The group sounded great and will sound even better after playing together more. Anyone who sees them this summer is in for a treat.

Bookmark and Share I hope they offer up a recording. And mostly,I hope they offer up a date for Tampa Bay.i can understand that it might not make good business sense to come here.I think the last TRIO date they did in our area was years ago during the first round of gigs Pat did with Antonio and Christian McBride. They had to change to a smaller venue and I don’t think the crowd was all that great in their appreciation and deportment.Maybe they weren’t hip to the chamber jazz exoerience back then. Please Pat! Give us another chance to hear your trio live. I think the area has grown musically since then. And thank you for continuing to be faithful to us in bringing PMG and the mighty Orchestrion to us over the past few years!
