Hi All, Wow, what an amazing show. I had no idea it would be like that, I was expecting something totally different. Anyway, I am having a total meltdown. What was the name of the second song he played on the nylon stringed guitar? I know it, but I cant place what album it was off of. Thanks.

Bookmark and Share I agree. A box set seems like it would be very fitting. The Jarrett Blue Note set is magical. I think Pat could release something similar and it would be a remarkable document to add to his amazing career.

Bookmark and Share Metheny has never done a box set. If anyone is entitled to do one it’s Pat. This would be remarkable if he ever released a Keith Jarrett style box. Hey Pat, if you release it I’ll buy.

Bookmark and Share I was on the side stage for the Sunday show. I was explaining to my group that we were basically sitting where Lyle Mays would be on a normal PMG show. It was totally unbelievable to have that perspective. Especially interesting was seeing how he managed the pedals for the Orchestrion section. Once in a lifetime opportunity! Everyone at the Blue Note was very nice and helpful, and it’s in such a beautiful neighborhood.

Bookmark and Share "fchovitz" I totally agree with your assesment of the Blue Note. Before Sun. I too read quite a bit of reviews of the Blue Note that sounded more like warnings than reviews. I found all the staff very cordial. Our server was really excelent and the people we shared the table with were very pleasant to talk to. I’ve been to many Pat shows in NYC that were tarnished by disrespectful, unattentive individuals but Sunday at the Blue Note the place was absolutely packed with great vibes and a very appreciative crowd.

Bookmark and Share Hi everyone! Attended the 8pm show on Sunday night with my wife. what struck me was that all of the "warnings" about the Blue Note, ie. crowded, gruff personalities at the door, etc. were simply not true. Being so close to Pat and his music was inspirational to say the least. the orchestrion piece was probably the best piece of music I have ever heard him play. It was a special night for my wife and I. Tried to get him to sign the back of my ticket stub for the last Orchestrion show, but was told that he was resting up for the next show. Totally understandable. thanks for the music Pat.

Bookmark and Share brinklehof ... less than three feet from him whilst playing ? holy cow , thats borderline suicidal . I’ve seen guitarists accidentally slice the faces off audience members during particularly intense sequences , and Pat gets completely enraptured at times . As they say in Yorkshire , ’You were lucky’!

Bookmark and Share Big kudos to Pat and Larry! I am so happy that all the shows were different and unique in their own way. Just from reading all of the reviews, and the two sets I heard on different nights, different venues in California - Pat really pulled from many different aspects of his impressive songbook. The shows in San Francisco were part of SF Jazz. They were billed as "music from the new CD." He didn’t play ANY from his new CD - all classic Metheny and some standards.

Bookmark and Share Attended the Sunday 8pm show. Usually I’m just content to be in the building when Pat plays. I’ve seen him so may times from balconies, however this time I was beyond fortunate to be sitting at the stage directly in front of him. When he and Larry hit the stage he made direct eye contact with me and said "thanks for coming". What a thrill. The few tunes he played seated, most noteably "The Sound Of Water" on the 42 string were breathtaking. When he played, my face was literally less than three feet from the guitar. Was able to get a great view of Pat controling all his toys since I was so close I had to watch out I didn’t bump anything. I even got a guitar pick he used. I can’t begin to put into words how I felt being so close to his playing with all that gorgeous sound washing over me. I was blinking back tears all night and my wife said I never stopped smiling. Beautiful set included; So May it Secretly Begin, James, When We were Free, Never to Far Away, The Bat, The Sound of Water, an mindblowing improv on a version of the orchestrion, and And I Love Her. I found "The Bat" particularly moving I almost wept with joy. Such an intimate gig, that’s how jazz was ment to be experienced. I don’t expect I’ll ever have another experience to compete with it unless I ever get to shake Pat’s hand someday and thank him for how he has enriched my life. Only wish I could have made it to more shows... best money ever spent

Bookmark and Share And who would have imagined he would bring a piece of the Orchestrion to Blue Note? What a surprise.I wish I went twice, I really do. Seeing him on this tour, really made me realize how important he is. I mean, we know he is one of the best, but this tour makes me realize he is on another level. He really is in a room by himself. To me, Jarrett and Metheny stand at the top.

Bookmark and Share Thanks "lorenantolik", Of course. The song at my show was "Farmer’s Trust". I am really upset that I did not go twice. It sounds like this BLue Note stint, he mixed it all up with many many songs, because most of the songs you mentioned were not played at my show. I did not expect this kind of show. I thought it was going to be in support of "What’s It All About". So I was really surprised and enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. As I have said before, Pat always gives you the unexpected. What a fantastic performance.

Bookmark and Share We were there on Thursday and Sunday first sets. On Thursday the acoustic songs were I’ll Find Me in Your Dreams and Farmers Trust. On Sunday night he played The Bat and Two For the Road. The encore on Sunday also included the acoustic piece And I Love Her, whereas the Thursday night show the encore was Lone Jack. Both shows were structured similarly, but each show was completely unique unto itself. The last song where he played the synth guitar was definitely a highlight and took me right back to circa Are You Going With Me(theny) :)

Bookmark and Share Sunship, it depends which night you went to. I went for two nights, (Tuesday and Friday) and both shows were completely different from each other, (every single song) except for Question and Answer. For Tuesday, they opened with "Unrequited", but Friday night, they opened with "So May It Secretly Begin. The second song with the Nylon strings on Tuesday was "Always and Forever" but on Friday it was "Two For the Road" from Missouri Sky, which was unbelievably beautiful.
