Bookmark and Share The audience around me was very dialed in. Though you’re right—I was in orch right down front by that AC vent. I didn’t find it that annoying, and the fresh cool air felt good. And with all the clanging and banging from the orchestrion, I couldn’t hear the AC anyway.

Bookmark and Share So, I’m getting the impression the audience for this show was well-behaved? If so, that’s very welcome news. I am still beside myself over the rudeness of the people sitting near me at the Boston show of the Orchestrion tour.

Bookmark and Share I agree the Orpheum is kind of dumpy, but I’ve generally found the sound to be pretty good there. And I do like the Somerville Theatre, but can’t agree that there’s not a bad seat in the house. Some of the seats in orchestra right center, and orchestra far right, are weirdly tilted and uncomfortable, especially down near the front. And there is an air conditioning vent that rattles loudly over on the right wall in the orchestra seating - very distracting in quiet sections. AND the doors in the back of the hall make a lot of noise as people constantly come and go for beers. Why anyone would go for another beer during a Pat Metheny show is a question for another time. I’ll just point out there are plenty of places in or near Davis Square to go for a pint AFTER the gig.

Bookmark and Share Tom, Great concert. I was in Orch Left also. Row J aisle seat #11. I also agree Somerville is a great venue. Too bad they have PMG st Orpheum (I guess due to more seats available??) I wish they would start to book PMG at the Opera House instead. The Metheny-Mehldau Quartet was great there. Also saw PMG there in early 80’s way before the renovation.

Bookmark and Share The Somerville Theater is a great venue, isn’t it? Clean, not too large, and sonically solid. Not a bad seat in the place. We were orchestra Right, so a great view of Pat’s playing, but Larry not so much as he had his back to us. I had my 15 yr old son in tow, and he was generally nonplussed by the first few tunes, but after the pikasso came out, he was fully engaged and he then understood why I insisted on bringing him along.
