Has Pat ever played in Russia? Seems I should know the answer to that but I don’t.

Bookmark and Share Yes Igor Butman, I have Magic Land on CD, Great 5 Star CD IMO. Igor’s playing reminds me a lot of Michael Brecker’s very strong with total mastery of the horn. I listened to samples of the one Lyle is on called The Falling Out. Sounds like a must have. Thanks for the tip I never knew that.

Bookmark and Share Lyle appears on Russian saxophonist Igor Butman’s first US release in the early 90s. I always assumed that they met while PMG performed in Russia, but I could be wrong. Butman’s site does mention that he played with Pat in Russia. It also mentions that Igor is Bill Clinton’s "favorite living saxophonist."

Bookmark and Share Thanks -m. Well there you have it right from Pat himself. I would of figured he had to have been there during some of his travels. He’s been around the world so many times it makes your head spin. What a wonderful thing for Pat to be able to share his music Live with most of the people in the entire world. Doesn’t get much better than that.

Bookmark and Share Tom: I added the link below to a Q and A section on gear. In it Pat mentions his trip to the former USSR and some of the jam sessions he did. I had posted it earlier, wasn’t sure if you’d seen it. http://interact.patmetheny.com/qa/questionView.cfm?queID=56

Bookmark and Share PMG did a USSR tour in 1987. Leningrad Jubilee Hall June 8-11, Moscow Dynamo Hall June 13-17, and Kiev Sports Concert Hall June 20-23. I remember reading a quote from Pat where he said the audience had no idea what to expect, but they loved the music!

Bookmark and Share There’s a "Russian" edition t-shirt from the 1991 Summer European Tour in the bargain bin of the PMG store, but Russia is not listed as one of the countries. However, Pat’s name appears to be written in Russian on the front of the shirt.
