Hey all, if I understand correctly, when recording covers of other tunes royalties aren’t required as long as the arrangements are different from the original. But what qualifies an arrangement as being different from the original? Things that keep me awake at night. Thanks

Bookmark and Share Recording a cover requires the procurement of a mechanical license. Any arrangement that is substantially different from the original also requires the approval of the original composer.

Bookmark and Share Covering a song requires the purchase of a mechanical license. If the arrangement is substantially different, there are more requirements and the original composer must sign off on the new version.
