I raved about this lot last year, and I caught a tremendous gig by them last night at the Edge Arts Centre in Much Wenlock. A great little venue and the band were firing on all cylinders, even better than when I saw them last year. They fully justify the great reviews they’ve been getting. Gwilym Simcock played a blinder despite having a heavy cold, Mike Walker was on blistering form, and you’d be hard pressed to find a better rhythm section than Steve Swallow and Adam Nussbaum. There are four gigs left on their UK tour - Southport tonight (Sunday), Manchester on Tuesday, Barnstaple on Wednesday, Dorking on Thursday. The CD is very good, but live they’re something else!

Bookmark and Share Bob I owe you one!Fantastic performance on Thursday.Knew and have stuff from Mike Walker and Steve Swallow, but Gwilym Simcock was a revelation to me and Adam Nussbaum amchored it all so effectively. Two hour set in a tiny venue (140 people tops), followed by a meet and greet with the band. As seems quite usual with jazz (as opposed to rock) musicians they seemed charming and unassuming people, enjoying the attention and appreciation of the audience. Have had the album a couple of weeks and it now sounds quite different having seen them perform most of it live. I think they are touring in mainland Europe later this year. Can’t recommend them highly enough.
