It begins in 3/4,? then 6/8 (ultimately 3/4 but faster), then 7/8, then it goes into Antonio’s drum solo and god knows what time signature thats in...(quote from youtube under the video.)I hope everyone is safe back in the midwest....some folks were hit hard.

Bookmark and Share I just received an email from my uncle who lives in Nevada, Mo, which is within an hour’s drive north of Joplin. He sent a letter that was written by an ER doctor in the hospital that was hit from the tornado. It is a vivid, moving description of the realities of dealing with a force of nature this powerful and his professional response to it. I’ll be glad to share it with anyone who wants to read it, just send me your email address PS it’s not for those with a weak stomach- sjbranham3@aol.com

Bookmark and Share Are the twisters this season more violent and bigger than usual or is it that they have just by horrible coincidence run into urban areas more than usual?

Bookmark and Share Bicycle helmets ? Hmmmm , well I’ve heard of ’riding out the storm’ but surely there are better times to go cycling . Seriously , if there are any out there still doubting the connection between anthropogenic global warming and enhanced atmospheric volatility then maybe all those coal-powered stations in the USA need gradual decommissioning and renewables need to be ramped up quickly . Even the Germans are phasing out nuclear and that decision has nothing to do with climate change . Above the Treetops .

Bookmark and Share Thanks Fred. People who live in tornado alley are all trained what to do in the event of a twister. But it’s something completely different when you actually have to act in the face of one. I have other relatives who have lived in Mo. all their lives, buy no one has come this close to one before.

Bookmark and Share HAMBONE, glad to hear your brother is OK. He did a smart thing closing the windows ... it turns out that the "conventional wisdom" to open the windows, supposedly so as to prevent the house from exploding due to air pressure inequity, is exactly opposite what actually should be done: close the windows so that the wind can’t come in and lift the roof off the house. Windows may be blown out, as in your brother’s case, but better that than a totally demolished house. Another good tip: bicycle helmets.

Bookmark and Share Not to turn this into something found in the Basement but really, these tornados hitting the midwest are something else. Sure, every year is tornado season there but like this?? These things are massive and they seem endless. My thoughts go out to those who’ve lost everything. It’s just brutal.

Bookmark and Share Can’t imagine anything more terrifying than a twister. Or trying to jam along with The Gathering Sky. There’s a PMG song called Badlands from Quartet that sounds so much like a storm coming out of nowhere in some quiet rural spot. Not violent enough to be a twister but a sudden torrential downpour at the least.

Bookmark and Share Yes and the title is apropos to the weather back in the heartland. My brother lives in Joplin and was 4 blocks from a direct hit from the twister that hit Sunday. He said he saw the debris flying around as he shut all the windows in his house. Luckily he only had windows blown out and a shed destroyed. My prayers and thoughts go out to everyone has has suffered from these horrible storms.

Bookmark and Share I posted this in response to a question a few months back about the infamous time structures in the piece. Antonio Sanchez has posted a master class segment on just this tune at youtube. I will post the link in the next post. Antonio talks about a clave and inverted clave rhythm in 7/8 time. Ahhhhh, that explains it.... and the ultimate answer is (gasp) follow the cowbell. :)
