Just came home from the gig of the year: Joe Lovano and Chris Potter playing a tribute to Coltranes Love Suppreme! It was fantastic! I met Chris after the gig and we talked for 15 minutes, Such a nice guy, incredible...He thinks somewhere in the future he might be doing something with Pat again, so keep those fingers crossed!

Bookmark and Share I looked around also and found that Lovano had done this before but with Ravi Coltrane. I am a fan of Coltrane tributes , I have Branford Marseles Love Supreme and Dave Leibmans Meditations Suite which are both excellant also. Thanks for sahring this.

Bookmark and Share I’ve been checking Chris’, Joe’s and the drummer, Jonathan Blakes websites and it actually seems to have been a one time gig. In fact, the whole festival (4 days) was an hommage to Coltrane. Before them Archie Shepp, who actually played on the Love Suppreme album, played a rather funky set with all his tunes of the Attica Blues album, supported by a big band with 15 musicians and 2 fantastic female vocalists. It’ll be hard to top this in 2015. Except if I go to see Pat in Uppsala in october...Also remember the piano players name, Lawrence Fields, 31 years old, who played with Chris and Joe. And then on bass of course Cecil Mcbee, 80 years but what a drive still. Again, what a night. Made me forget the dissapointment of the Dejhonette gig last month. To free that jazz for me...
