Today Ornette passed away. A very great loss. I think he was a Or maybe the )major influence on Pat’s music. Now
the last member of the legendary Ornette Coleman Quartet is dead. A warning: recently I bought the cd New
Vocabulary which was announced as a ground-breaking new recording by Ornette, but it seems to be a recording
made without the permission by Ornette. Ornette filed a lawsuit against the people responsible for this recording. |

Pat’s text is taken from the book about Ornette Coleman by the late German bass player and journalist Peter Niklas Wilson published in 1999. Unfortunately the book is no longer available. Wilson showed that Coleman was deeply rooted in the tradition and that he was far from atonal music. Pat explains it very nice in his own words. Wilson wrote the book before the expanded edition of Song X came out otherwise his praise for this recording would have been even higher.

Pat has found the right words to praise Ornette Coleman in his obituary. Since his first record Bright Size Life Pat has
always recorded Coleman songs.
