Bookmark and Share Steve… Well, there is MySpace, but I don’t recommend that. It limits the number of songs you can post and it’s too loaded with riffraff. I use a site called ‘soundclick.com’. It’s free, and you can post as many songs as you want. Each song has a size limit though, which limits the quality. If you have longer songs you have to size down your files with smaller mp3 compression. But I think all of them are this way. Since you are doing someone else’s music you just have to make sure you give credit as a cover song. The only other drawback I should warn you about is sharing this in the forum potentially exposes you if your name is anywhere else on the internet, like Facebook or MySpace. I posted my music on here and some folks found me on Facebook; which is totally cool, because these guys are really cool and respect my privacy.

Bookmark and Share foper_Cool. I use my computer for my "real" work, so I didn’t want to add the heavy requirements of creating music to an already over-burdened system. Another gentleman that I met here in the Garage uses the same type of setup, and he and I exchanged some songs and correspondence. Lots of fun . . . Any suggestions other than YouTube for audio-only files? Haven’t ever posted anything audio the Internet.

Bookmark and Share Steve… Sounds like you do much of the same thing I do. I call my little studio my ‘Man Cave’. A place of solace I can get away from everyone and everything and just lay down some tracks. I used to have the VS-880 until I figured it was time to get everything consolidated into a PC platform, so I invested in Cubase. I found it is far less expensive than having to keep upgrading equipment and buy more synth modules and such. All of my synths and effects are integrated within Cubase. Unlimited tracks, ease of editing, and an awesome end product. I don’t do much in the line of Pat music. As I mention I just did AYGWM as a first song to practice learning the software and such. It’s a really cruddy version of the song and Pat would be really unhappy that I dorked up his song so badly; so I just keep it to myself. LOL. I write all of my own stuff and lately have been really focused on doing solo acoustic guitar. Do you post your music anywhere out there to share with us?

Bookmark and Share I have a "digital studio" - Roland VS2000CD, and three keyboards, utilizing my Roland FantomX6 for sequencing all parts so I can play my guitar over those backing tracks. I have 45 Pat tunes put together, and utilize parts of others for soloing sections, etc. I’ve been doing this quite awhile, and am very serious about it, but it’s only for my own enjoyment and education. I wouldn’t put anything up on YouTube though - not my "thang".

Bookmark and Share A.J: Absolutely! Whenever I’m starting to feel good about my playing I immediatly head into my studio and record a version of "James". Humility returns shortly on playback. I also do this to keep my enthusiasm up for practicing.

Bookmark and Share Not sure whether this counts: although I play a little guitar and bass I’m mainly a singer. Been recording a lot these last few years, with a little help from friends. As I won’t even try playing Pat’s guitar parts for obvious lack of technique I’ve been thinking, or rather, dreaming of ‘vocalizing’ his music, purely a cappella, throwing in some harmonies here and there. I happen to have finished a demo of Minuano only recently. Not completely satisfied with the result, though, but it ’s a start.

Bookmark and Share I love playing through the pat metheny songbook. It gets harder and harder to find like minded folk to add the other parts in.Tempus Fugit...Then I listen to Lyles solos and I set the book aside.

Bookmark and Share I’ve adapted several for solo guitar: Jaco (in A-minor,) (It’s Just) Talk, Always and Forever, to name a few. Played "Bright Size Life" in a trio for a few years. I also enjoy reading out of the PM songbook. They will never be posted for public view-way too scary. What if PM is watching?

Bookmark and Share One day some of my big band arrangements may be released to the public (been playing them live for a while). They include Extradition, When We Were Free, Lone Jack, Unity Village and Song for Bilbao. My son does a great Letter from Home on the piano.

Bookmark and Share One For The Boys. I can barely get through the changes let alone ever remotely think of recording and posting it. It’s fun to frustrate myself though which is basically what my playing always has been.

Bookmark and Share When I upgraded my home studio to a computer-based platform the first thing I did to learn how to get it working was do up a pretty cruddy version of ’Are You Going With Me’. I had it posted on Myspace for a short while, but I really don’t Myspace anymore and yanked it. I’m more into just writing my own stuff.

Bookmark and Share YouTube is unfortunately FULL of people attempting to play Pat’s music. I myself can play Always & Forever note for note on the guitar, but I’ll never post that on YouTube. Why? Because Pat already plays that song and I’m not adding anything worthwhile to it. YouTube does showcase some incredible talent. But as we all know, it also showcases a lot of people stumbling through their online performances. Pat’s music included. Yes, there are those on YouTube who actually take Pat’s stuff to new places. However, that’s few and far between.
